About Sonia

Sonia write speculative fiction inspired by Palestinian folklore. Her work has appeared in ArabLit Quarterly, Beladi, FIYAH, Lackington’s Magazine, Seize the Press, and other venues. Her stories have been nominated for Pushcart, Lammy, Palestine Book, and was a finalist for the Best New Weird Award.

In her free time, Sonia is a Hugo-nominated first reader for Strange Horizons.

Sonia has a (combined) BA in English Language and Literature and Classical Civilization, B.Ed., and an MA in English, as well as a University Teaching Certificate. She is also a proud member of the Writers’ Union of Canada (TWUC).

Sonia is available for readings via the National Public Readings Program with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Ontario Writers in the Schools program with the support of the Ontario Arts Council, both through the funding of TWUC.
